Biography
Skyler Saufley is a self-taught guitarist, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and bandleader dedicated to preserving the excitement and authenticity of classic American Rhythm & Blues. Inspired by the pioneers of jump blues and post-war Rhythm & Blues, Skyler and his band deliver a high-energy show built on swinging rhythms, fiery guitar playing, soulful vocals, and a genuine love for the music.
Growing up in Phenix City, Alabama, Skyler first discovered his passion for blues music after first falling in love with the early rock and roll sounds of Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Around the age of twelve, he picked up the guitar and taught himself entirely by ear, spending countless hours listening to the original recordings of T-Bone Walker, Pee Wee Crayton, Roy Brown, Guitar Slim, Wynonie Harris, Lowell Fulson, and many of the artists who helped shape American music. While most guitarists his age were learning modern pop songs, Skyler was studying records that were already more than half a century old.
By his mid-teens, he was performing professionally, often sneaking into clubs to play years before he was old enough to legally walk through the front door. As his reputation grew throughout the Southeast, so did his touring schedule. Skyler became known for his energetic performances, natural showmanship, and deep respect for the history of American blues.
In 2023, Skyler's dedication to preserving traditional blues was recognized with his induction into the Alabama Blues Hall of Fame. Since then, his career has expanded internationally with three successful European tours, introducing his music to audiences across France, Belgium, Switzerland, and beyond. Performing everywhere from intimate blues clubs to internationally recognized festivals, Skyler has found an enthusiastic audience overseas, where his authentic approach to classic American Rhythm & Blues has led to repeat engagements and an ever-growing international tour schedule.
Backing Skyler is a powerhouse band featuring upright bass, driving drums, and roaring saxophones that perfectly captures the excitement of the great Rhythm & Blues bands of the late 1940s and 1950s. Whether performing a hard-driving shuffle, a slow blues, or a boogie-woogie classic, every show is built around spontaneity, musicianship, and connecting with the audience.
"For Skyler, the goal has never been to recreate the past. It's to keep the music alive. Every night on stage is an opportunity to introduce someone to the artists who built American music and to prove that great Rhythm & Blues is just as exciting today as it was seventy years ago."
